Kamika’s Letters

Kamika turned the pain of incarceration into spoken word poetry to uplift her community. With brothers, uncles, cousins and her own mother all serving time, Kamika felt it was her mission to prevent the next generation of youth from falling into the same system that trapped her loved ones.

Kamika’s Letters was distributed on NowThis and seen by hundreds of thousands of people.

The film screened at the first presidential forum held in a former penitentiary, Justic Votes Townhall, where Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and an audience of formerly incarcerated people discussed how to fix our broken criminal justice system.
